Principal Duties:

 

Coordinate and expedite the movement of inbound and outbound cargo at airline, rail and truck terminals as well as shipping docks.  Take orders from customers and arrange freight pickup and cargo for delivery to cargo docks.  Coordinate with the company's Pricing Professional on bills of lading to determine shipping charges and fees.

Associated Duties:

 

  • Determine shipping method and prepare bills of lading, invoices, and other shipping documents

  • Track the delivery progress of shipments

  • Advise customers on transportation and payment methods

  • Calculate postage or freight rates and record costs and weights of shipments

  • Coordinate cargo shipments with drivers, shippers, and other personnel involved in shipping operations

  • Review customer shipping requests to ensure they are accurate and complete

  • Communicate with customers to notify them of shipment status, delays, and issues during shipment

  • Review shipping orders, rates, and schedules to ensure they are accurate and complete

  • Schedule deliveries based on customer requirements and available shipping options

  • Maintain records of all shipments to track status, costs and performance

  • Coordinate the contracting of carriers or third-party logistics providers to handle shipping needs

  • Prepare contracts for cargo shipping services and arrangements for the pickup and delivery of shipments

 

Requirements:

 

  • Transportation:  knowledge of the principles and methods of moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits

  • Geography:  knowledge of the principles and methods of describing the characteristics of land, sea, and air masses, including their physical characteristics, locations, interrelationships, and distribution of commodities

  • Public Safety and Protection:  knowledge of the local tax authority regarding shipping costs and procedures; knowledge of equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies relevant to promoting effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions

  • English:  excellent knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including speech, meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
